Puppy fun facts: Puppies can’t leave their mother until they are about 8 weeks, but kids can visit, like Michael does in this video

Sometimes it’s hard to wait for your puppy to be ready to come home! You can’t bring puppies home until they are about 8 weeks old. Until then, they need mother’s milk. In this video, Michael visits a litter of puppies a few weeks before he takes one of them–Hudson–home.

Puppy fun facts: Some puppies, like Michael’s dog Hudson, keep trying to drink their mother’s milk, even after they are 8 weeks old. Mother dogs are pretty tolerant, says Gina Heitz, a breeder in Oregon. If puppies are gentle and don’t bite, the mother will allow them to nurse until she runs out of milk. But if they bite or are rough, she will run away from them.

Says Michael, “It made me feel happy to have these puppies climb into my lap. I couldn’t wait to bring my puppy home.”

It can be so hard to wait when you pick your pup out, right? But it’s obviously necessary to do what’s best for them.

Aww the video is so precious. I feel like I want to reach right through the screen & cuddle the puppy. I love how that second guy sticks his in head too. 🙂
