Kids’Dog Blog Provides Fun Dog Facts for Kids, Kids’ Dog Book Reviews–and More: Press Release

Five-year-old author Michael Cohn, 5, and his mom and co-author, Lisa Cohn, have launched “Michael’s Dog Blog,” a blog for kids featuring dog facts for kids, dog heroism tales, and book reviews by Michael and friends.

The dog blog, like the authors’ book, aims to teach kids age 4 to 8 about the magical connection between children and dogs. The blog–through videos–also aims to share young Michael’s enthusiasm for dog books in hopes of inspiring other young children to love reading.

Michael and Lisa are co-authors of “Bash and Lucy Fetch Confidence,” a dog picture book in which talkative Bash and his mischievous dog, Lucy, teach a boys’ soccer team about sports, friendship, teamwork—and life. Lisa and Michael wrote the book after their dog, Lucy, died suddenly of cancer at age 6.

“When Lucy died so suddenly, I was in so much pain and realized just how extraordinary Lucy’s connection was to our family members. I decided to teach kids about the wonder of dogs and how much they give to us in ways that are sometimes magical and mysterious,” says Lisa Cohn.

When Lisa started to write the book, she got stuck, and asked Michael for advice. The young book lover jumped in and helped her finish the book, and then embraced the role of chief video blogger for the dog blog. The character of “Bash” is loosely based on Michael’s chatty personality and the illustrations resemble him.

In “Michael’s Dog Blog,” Lisa and Michael give interesting dog facts for kids, providing stories about dog heroism, how dogs affect kids’ health, and how dogs aren’t always natural swimmers—to name just a few topics. Michael also does video reviews of the best dog books, often with friends age 5 to 13. In addition, his videos give advice about how to raise a puppy–how to identify a dog having a bad day, for example.
Kids, teachers and parents can subscribe to Michael’s Dog Blog at http://www.BashAndLucy.com. There’s a form on the left side of the page where kids, parents and teachers should enter their email address.

“Bash and Lucy Fetch Confidence” is beautifully illustrated by Heather Nichols, a Portland freelance illustrator.

Lisa Cohn is an award-winning writer and author whose work has appeared in numerous national publications, including the Christian Science Monitor, Parenting, and Brain, Child: The Magazine for Thinking Mothers. She has received a number of awards for her other books, from Parenting Publications of America, Voice of Youth Advocates and ForeWord Book of the Year.

“I take real joy in editing children’s books,” wrote an editor with Amazon’s Createspace about ‘Bash And Lucy Fetch Confidence,’ which will be available at the end of the summer. “I’ve edited quite a few, but this was one of the very best I’ve been given the opportunity to read and work on. As an adult, I enjoyed reading it and could easily imagine sharing this with my own children over and over again.”
